A Window to the Fatherland

We begin tonight’s edition of A Window to the Fatherland with Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh reading one of his poems from the book of his collected works.

Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:

Tonight we will try to analyze Khamenei’s comments about the issues of freedom and independence, which he claims to be available fully for Iran and the Iranians under his rule.

Do we really have freedoms in Iran? Fore the last 30 years a group of handpicked and reactionary clerics in the Guardian Council who had been put together by Rafsanjani have been “electing” Khamenei as the supreme leaders without any proper qualifications and he calls this “freedom of choice”!!

Then we have the head of the justice system, Ebrahim Raeesi, whose name is among the four judges who ordered the executions of thousands of political prisoners in an act of crime against humanity, and yet he is at the helm of a body that is supposed to deliver justice and freedoms to the citizens!!

Do we really have any freedoms in Iran? Mr Ghassem Shole Sadee, two times a Majles deputy who are supposed to be immune from any prosecution according to the constitution, was arrested and jailed for months for simply writing a letter to Khamenei.

What kind of freedom and independence do we have in Iran when Mohammad Reza Khatami, the deputy Majles speaker is sentenced to five years in prison for disputing the result of the 2008 presidential election in court!

I would ask Mr Khamenei to think about his position as a religious man as they are expected to be honest and advocate justice and humanity.

His decent late parents whom I happened to know would be asking him to remain fair and avoid injustice in this mortal world.

If we had any freedoms in Iran I should be able to go back to the country to visit my sick mother, without the fear of being jailed. Hundreds of people are fleeing Iran every single day just because they do not feel safe and have no freedom of choice.

The rulers of Iran have now condemned the seizure of their oil super tanker as “piracy by the vicious English government”, forgetting the fact that for the last 40 years they themselves have pirated the wealth of Iran and the Iranians and stifled any voice of dissent against their illegal actions!!

Mr Khamenei has threatened to take revenge against the British. But the British and Americans are now almost in control of the waters of the Persian Gulf with the deployment of their naval and air forces and any such action would justmake matters worse.

Zarif is now in New York but it appears that the American media have not shown any interest in talking to him this time round.
