Behind the Headlines

Jamshid Chalangi:

Greetings to all my Iranian compatriots, wherever in the world they might be.

Some of you have kindly been concerned about my health and treatment and I can say that thankfully I am getting better and I wish all of you good health too.

In this issue of the Behind the Headlines we will discuss the following issueswith our guests Hassan Etemadi and Shervan Pashandi:

The Iranian footballer Ali Daie has reveled the identity of a senior Iranian sports official who has murdered the Kurdish opposition leader Abdulrahman Ghassemloo;

And the US is sending an aircraft carrier strike group and a fleet of bombers to the Middle East in response to a “troubling and escalatory indications” of Iranian activity in the region.

The flood-hit areas of Iran are now fighting against the spread of contagious diseases and no Iranian authority has taken up any responsibility in dealing with this yet another disaster for our country.

Hassan Etemadi:

You are right to report on this new challenge for our suffering people as they are now facing major epidemic of life threatening diseases as contaminated water of the flood and the sewerage have now entered their water supplies for domestic and agricultural use.

Further more, we now have the carcasses of so many animals that have perished in the floods on the ground and they are spreading very dangerous bacteria in the soil and atmosphere and as the summer is approaching this will cause even another disaster as major as the flood itself.

Shervan Pashandi:

There is an expression in the English language that implies that we do not need to invent the wheel any more, we just have to get to know how to make good use of it for different purposes.

The same applies to dealing with natural disasters. We all know that they happen and they do not know any boundaries. We just have to know how to deal with them, something that is done in Western industrialized countries as many organizations are created and sustained financially by governments for the rainy days.

But the only preoccupation that the Iranian regime has is how to destroy our natural resources for its own interests and how to cause war and instability in the region to stay in power in Iran.

All we need to look for this evidence is the current flare up of hostilities between Hamas that is supported by the regime and the Israelis.
