In tonight’s program we will once again look at the escalating tension between Tehran and Washington, as President Donald Trump has set a red line for Iran by tweeting “If Iran wants to fight, that will be the official end of Iran”.
We need to find out why the Iranian side refuses to enter any negotiations and if there are parties on both sides who do want to enter a war.
Our guest to discuss these issues tonight is former Iranian diplomat and political commentator Dr. Mehrdad Khonsari.
Dr. Mehrdad Khonsari:
Sadly we are facing a situation that is the culmination of forty years of mismanagement of our country.
All those who look at our country from a point of view of progressing and making it a powerful and prosperous country can see how things have gone from bad to worse since the revolution.
The Islamic republic regime has taken our nation from one crisis to another and our people are sick and tired of all these uncertainties and calamities.
Today however with the additional economic pressure on Iran and the threats directed at our country from the US and its regional allies the situation is far worse than before.
But all this also does not necessarily mean that the regime is on the verge of collapse.
Jamshid Chalangi:
But the only reason that this regime continues to exist is because it creates crisis for itself and has launched a movement to rule over the Islamic world.
Dr. Mehrdad Khonsari:
In fact the Islamic revolution in Iran has seen the beginning of Islamic fundamentalism and its impact on the Islamic world has been very significant and the Western countries have been concerned about this.
However, this religious fundamentalism and ideology inside Iran itself has died down and nobody cares about it, as the main problem of our nation is its economic collapse.
The regime also cannot any longer claim that it has led the rise of Islamic fundamentalism because it has led to an extremism that the Western and civilized world reject and condemn.
