A Window to the Fatherland

We begin tonight’s edition of A Window to the Fatherland with Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh reading one of his poems from the book of his collected works.

Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:

We continue the program with talking to our special guest Dr. Ghasem Shole Saadi, for his expert views about news of Iran and the Middle East.

We all love the magic city of Shiraz. I recall when I was a kid my father took me there and we went up and down the Zand Avenuetens of times. This is a city where our great poets Saadi and Hafez come from.

Dr. Ghasem Shole Saadi:

The city of Shiraz has taken most of the human toll during the recent flood disaster in our country but the people have been helping each other to overcome this tragedy.

The flood should have been diverted if it were not for the closure of the canals by profit making people.

The people of Shiraz are known to be very welcoming towards guests and hotels had allowed flood affected people to stay in themfree of charge for days until they could go back to their homes and businesses.

Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:

The regime in our country has long drawn up a wall between our people and the outside world and we wonder if you are now free to talk to us but will not be arrested tomorrow.

Dr. Ghasem Shole Saadi:

If you remember, when Khatami came to power a group of his supporters went to the Berlin Conference and Akbar Ganji was amongstthem.

In his speech he said the Islamic republic regime could be reformed. But when he returned to Iran he was arrested and jailed, which is an indication that this regime is not reformable.

Under the current constitution and the vetting process for election of representatives for Majles and other decision making bodies there is no possibility of reforming this system of governance.
