Behind the Headlines

In tonight’s we will look at how two generations of Iranian immigrants have made their lives in Canada by achieving their academic and business ambitions.

In the first instance we speak to Dr Reza Marandi in Toronto. He was purged as a senior lecturer from Tehran University after the Revolution.

He was then forced to leave the country and once outside Iran many prestigious Canadian and American universities offered him to lecture in them with delight.

In recognition of Dr Marandi’s academic contributions the Toronto municipality have named a street after his birth place city of Uromiyeh in Iran.

However, in Iran itself, the Islamic republic regime has named a street after the man who murdered the late Egyptian president Anwar Sadat.

Dr Marandi:

When I was offered the plaque of the street named after my birth place by the Mayor of Toronto, I wad hugely honoured and regarded it as if it was offered to my motherland of Iran all Iranians.

I can say that the people who have been ruling Iran for the last forty years do not deserve to be in their position simply because they have done nothing but destroyed our country and brought untold miseries for our proud and patient people.

The sanctions on Iran are deplorable but they are the effects of the Iranian regime’s nefarious actions and policies.
