Behind the Headlines

In tonight’s program of Behind the Headlines we will look at the consequences of Khamenei’s speech for the Basij militias at the Azadi stadium and find out who is the real target of his threats.

We will also look at the latest economic news of Iran including the continuation of the truck drivers’ strike.

We also hear about how an Iranian citizen from the oil rich province of Khuzestan has died as a result of the lack of basic medical treatment, while the regime’s officials get medical care in the best foreign hospitals of the world.

Our guests tonight to discuss these topics are Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh and Mehdi Khazali.

Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:

Mr. Pompeo has said that during the last year alone the Iranian regime has spent more than $16billion on Bashar Assad, Hezbollah and the Houthis of Yemen. And yet our fellow Iranian in Khuzestan has died because he has not had a smallamount of money to treat his condition.

I warn the regime that they must fear the consequences of these sad events, as the Iranian people will eventually take a revenge on them.

Mehdi Khazali:

The Revolutionary Guard can say anything they want and deceitfully portray the regime as the “best Islamic state after the death of Prophet Mohammad”.

And Mr. Khamenei can tell the Iranian people that they do not have any problems and Iran is like a heaven at the moment.

But the reality of the situation is that more than 90 percent of our country has been affected by poverty and malnutrition and social problems and the poverty line is now a salary of 6 million tomans.

All these problems have been caused by mismanagement and corruption among the ruling officials and it does not matter if they are from the fundamentalist camp or the reformist groups. They have all been after plundering the nation once in power.

Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:

I am very pleased that Mr Khazali has criticised both the hardliners and the reformist factions of the regime. This is a regime of the political thugs and they have all come from modest and working class background but have becomenovo rich by plundering the wealth of our nation and stay in power and keeptheir wealth and position through terror and repression.
