Contemporary Art – Lucian Freud

Lucian Michael Freud was a German born British painter and draftsman, specializing in figurative art, and is known as one of the foremost 20th-century portraitists and renowned for his nude portraits. He was born in Berlin, the son of a Jewish architect and the grandson of Sigmund Freud.
Freud’s early paintings, which are mostly very small, are often associated with German Expressionism (an influence he tended to deny) and Surrealism in depicting people, plants and animals in unusual juxtapositions.
His works have been compared with those of Rembrandt and Baruch Holland.
