A Window to the Fatherland

We begin tonight’s edition of A Window to the Fatherland with Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh reading one of his poems from the book of his collected works.

Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:

Tonight we will talk to our France correspondence Mr Mohammadreza Shaheed about the latest news and developments of that country by asking him what exactly is this Yellow Vests movement?

Mohammadreza Shaheed:

What do they really want? They appear to be demanding their rights and this is how it all started. In France the purchasing power of the people has gone down considerably and the country faces a financial crisis just like the rest of the world.

However, in France those who resort to the sort of protest that the Yellow Vests are doing are called saboteurs. They pass by a perfume shop and loot it or attack an electronics shop and steal the television sets from it and they do not care if the owners of these shops are Muslim or the follower of any other faith, they just want to steal and loot.

In the beginning the Macron government accepted their protest movement but he has told them that his government has only been in power for the last 18 months and the demands of the protestorsgoes back to decades ago.

He argues that the EU has got a set budget for France to finance the subsidies on petrol and payments to the pensioners but the Yellow Vests protestors just do not listen and continue with their destructive protests.

The protestors have already caused €4.4billion damage to the economy of France and Macron has told them that this means their financial power has been reduced further by their own acts of violence.

One French boxer among the protestors last week attacked a policeman and is now facing one to seven years of jail.
