A Window to the Fatherland

We begin tonight’s edition of A Window to the Fatherland with Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh reading one of his poems from the book of his collected works.

Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:

We continue the program with talking to our special guest of every Thursday, Dr. Mohsen Sazegara, by asking him if he did vote in the US Midterm elections

Dr. Mohsen Sazegara:

I am neither a Democrat nor a Republican and can describe myself as being among the 35% independent voters and strongly believe it is high time we had a third party in the US politics.

It is to the benefit of democracy to establish this new political party, as it will stop the state becoming even larger. The founders of the United States were always concerned about the government becoming too big and the American public are always worried about this issue and as such refuse to lay down their arms.

When I studied in the US before the revolution we had a left wing religious and critical view of the US and even after the revolution nobody really had any understanding of democracy for Iran.

But when years later I came back to the US I realized that revolutions are such horrific things and appreciated the US democracy that offered refuge to myself and my family and we now contribute to the American society and enjoy our freedoms.

Here no one is sent to prison for expressing their views and the ballot box has the last say about who rules the country. Just look at the freedom of press and how it challenges President Trump’s policies without fear of persecution.

The exact opposite of this system rules Iran where the sinister and tyrannical notion of Velayate Faghih, or the absolute rule of the clergy, manifested in Khamenei’s whims, has destroyed the country and he is accountable to no one!
