A Window to the Fatherland

We begin tonight’s edition of A Window to the Fatherland with Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh reading one of his poems from the book of his collected works.

Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:

We continue the program with a look at the recent gathering of the Mujaheddin Khalq Organization in Paris and then have a discussion with our guest Dr. Bahram Bahramian, by asking him how he would assess this gathering.

Dr. Bahram Bahramian:

Before any thing else, I must say that the Iranian people have been struggling for freedom and independence and democracy for over the last 200 years and have now collected enough experience in this regard that they will no longer accept the rule of any religious or military system of governance over them.

The Iranians are firstly after the establishment of a secular and democratic regime, and secondly, all those opposition groups who are after the removal of the Islamic republic regime must have the full support of the Iranian people, otherwise they will not be able to remain in power.

As for the Mujaheddin organization, they were involved in the political earthquake of the 1979 by assassinating US military attaches in Iran and other personnel and even now they still want to establish a religious government, which would not be accepted by the Iranian people.

Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:

What happens if tomorrow the Americans bring some of their military forces into a corner of Iran and the Mujaheddin will be installed in there?
How would the Iranian people react to such scenario?

Dr. Bahram Bahramian:

Then the Iranian people will back the current regime and would say that we do not want the Mujaheddin. However, why do the Americans support this group? The answer is that the US sees no other organized opposition group against the Iranian regime and this means we must unite among ourselves and create an alternative opposition in which neither the Tudeh communists nor the religious forces will have any place and only those who sincerely believe in democracy should participate.

Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:

The head of the Iraqi Intelligence Organization had told us that they had been paying more than $30m to the Mujaheddin per month and they had not spent the money but invested it in various countries. What should we do to set up this alternative?

Dr. Bahram Bahramian:

Money will not solve our problems. The Mujaheddin may have a lot of capital in their accounts, but the biggest capital in this struggle is our people. We must have an opposition group that can run the country after the collapse of the current regime to avoid chaos and anarchy in our country.

Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:

How do you see the role of the Prince Reza Pahlavi in this alternative?

Dr. Bahram Bahramian:

He has played his role as a symbol of our unity very good so far but we must avoid involving him as a political leader. We must unite our groups and parties to select their own candidates for a provisional parliament and government to hold a referendum for the type of system of governance that our people freely decide on it.

Today is the time for all Iranian democrats, regardless of being a monarchist or republican, to unite and use the current opportunity to install a provisional government of national unity, after which we can decide what system of governance we wish to have for our fatherland.

Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:

Stay with us for this edition of A Window to the Fatherland.
