We begin tonight’s edition of A Window to the Fatherland with Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh reading one of his poems from the book of his collected works.

We continue the program with updating our audience with some of the latest news stories about Iran and then talk to our special guest of every Thursday, Dr. Mohsen Sazegara, who would share with us his expert opinion about these news stories.

Mr. Rouhani is in Europe and in an interview with the press has said that Iran is in favor of peace and advocates human solidarity and brotherhood of man, and yet in another meeting he has warned that if Iran cannot export its oil no other country will be allowed to do so and then Qassem Soleimani of the Revolutionary Guard congratulates and cheers him. Can they really blockade the Strait of Hormuz?
Dr. Mohsen Sazegara:
Mr. Rouhani has suddenly changed and made a political turn to the right by putting his head under Khamenei’s cloak by accepting his decision to go it all the way to the end and confront the US, and if the Iranian people oppose this, they will be met with an iron fist.
And the force that is to carry this strategy along is the Revolutionary Guard. They have now decided to prettify the image of the Guard by covering the corruption of its commanders and keep them away from the streets and pretend that the crackdowns of protestors on the streets is the work of the agents of the ministry of intelligence.
They also want to stage a show of force and say that they’re resolute in dealing with protestors as seen in Khoramshahr earlier this week.
During the Iran-Iraq war the regime had studied the possibility of blockading the Strait of Hormuz but had concluded that they can only do it for day only.
So these ar empty threats and no one in the world would take them seriously.

What do we know about Rouhani’s personality?
Dr. Mohsen Sazegara:
I have never worked with him but used to see him in the 1980s. Those who know him say he is always trying to stand on the middle grounds and is not a doer but talks a lot. You can see that for yourself as after five years of his presidency he has hardly done any significant change or serious work for the country.
He is a very weak manger and while the country has been besieged with an economic crisis he has only met with his minister of economy twice. He seems to have left the fate of the country in the hands of Allah and all his administration’s economic and monetary decisions have proved wrong.
He is the weakest and least competent government in the so far life of the Islamic republic regime.
If he ever cared about the national interests of Iran he should have resigned by now.
The Islamic republic regime will not be overthrown by a foreign invasion. It is bound to collapse because it is an ideological and totalitarian regime. The more it stays in power the more calamities and damage it will inflict on Iran and the Iranians.
